Faculty who regularly teach service-learning courses are asked to request a service-learning course designation so that the class is properly tagged in Banner. This designation appears in all registration materials.
Why Apply for the Service-Learning Course Designation?
1
Students can easily identify service-learning courses in Banner.
2
To celebrate and recognize the students, faculty, and community partners involved
3
The CCE can provide support and advocate for resources to ensure success.
Request Service-Learning Course Designation

The course meets the four criteria passed by the College State .
The Rubric for Service-Learning Designation Syllabus Review (PDF) shows how peer reviewers interpret the criteria when looking at syllabi.
Answer questions about service-learning training and the designated Faculty fill out a short web form.
Faculty submit a syllabus
Preferably through the web form—but syllabi can also be submitted directly to the Associate Director of Civic and Community Engagement at villasam@buffalostate.edu).
Faculty peers review syllabi
The CCE notifies individual faculty members and their department chairs by email about approval (or changes the peer reviewers recommend).
